XAUUSD EA News Filters: Checking MT5 Calendar Behavior

An XAUUSD EA news filter is a rule for handling scheduled events, not a guarantee against volatility. Its value depends on the calendar it reads, the events it selects and exactly what it does to new entries, pending orders and existing positions.

Identify the calendar and its time basis

Ask whether the EA uses the built-in MQL5 Economic Calendar, an external provider or a manually maintained schedule. The official MQL5 Economic Calendar reference states that its calendar functions use trade-server time. A local clock or a website displaying another timezone can therefore create an apparent timing mismatch.

For a practical check, pick a scheduled event, record its displayed time in the EA’s data source and compare it with the terminal’s time basis. Repeat this after a broker change or a daylight-saving transition. Do not assume a preset’s time offset is still appropriate just because other settings remain unchanged.

Define what “pause for news” means

  • New market entries: are they blocked during the chosen interval?
  • Pending orders: are existing orders cancelled, left active or managed separately?
  • Open positions: does management continue, and are exits affected?
  • Event selection: which currencies, importance levels or event names are included?
  • Missing data: does the EA stop new entries, continue trading or report an error?

These behaviors are implementation-specific. Never infer that a news switch cancels pending orders or closes positions unless the documentation says so and a demo observation confirms it. Closing a position is itself an execution event and may incur costs.

Use a small event audit

Create a log with the event name, scheduled time, configured pause interval, positions and orders present beforehand, and messages produced during the pause. Afterward, check the first permitted entry time. A filter that looks enabled on a panel may still be using incomplete data or an unexpected event selection.

For example, imagine a demo configuration intended to block new entries from 15 minutes before to 15 minutes after an event. This is a test scenario, not a recommended trading window. Verify both boundaries and separately inspect any pending order that existed before the interval began.

Connect the check to the actual EA version

The site’s Gold Reaper v4.3 update article discusses calendar-related changes. Check the supplied release notes and the current product listing before assuming another version behaves the same way.

When reviewing the MT5 Expert Advisors category, treat news filtering as one operational requirement among several. Scheduled-event controls cannot detect every unscheduled headline, eliminate price gaps or guarantee a stop price. Their purpose is to apply a documented policy consistently, with trading risk still present.
