Gold EA Trading Sessions: MT5 Server Time and DST Checks
Gold EA trading sessions are only meaningful when the EA and the trader use the same clock. A setting labelled “start hour” might refer to broker-server time, UTC or another convention chosen by the developer. Resolve that question before copying session values from a guide or preset.
Build a time map for the account
Record four items together: the current date, a reliable UTC reference, the broker’s displayed time and the time basis named in the EA instructions. Use a moment when quotes are active. A stale quote timestamp during a closed session is not a useful clock comparison.
For developers, MetaQuotes documents TimeTradeServer as an estimated current server time calculated in the client terminal. The exact time function an EA uses is an implementation detail, so ask the developer rather than assuming every session filter works identically.
Translate the intended session, then verify it
Suppose a demo experiment is intended to start at 08:00 UTC and the confirmed broker offset on that date is UTC+2. A server-time input would correspond to 10:00. If the applicable offset later becomes UTC+3, the equivalent server hour becomes 11:00. These values are arithmetic examples, not suggested Gold trading hours.
London, New York and broker-server clocks do not necessarily change on the same dates. Keep the intended market session separate from the number entered into the robot. Recheck the mapping around clock changes and after moving to a different account server.
Handle breaks and overnight ranges
Inspect the instrument’s actual trading hours in MT5; brokers can have daily breaks and holiday changes. The Market Watch documentation describes the instrument specifications available in the terminal. A configured entry window cannot override a market closure.
If a range-building interval crosses midnight, verify how the EA assigns the trading day. Also check whether its end time stops only new entries or changes pending-order and position management. A range ending at midnight may be interpreted differently from one ending on the following day.
Test session boundaries explicitly
- Record the intended session and converted input values.
- Observe initialization before the opening boundary on demo.
- Check the first accepted signal or range-building message.
- Observe the closing boundary and inspect pending orders afterward.
- Repeat after any clock, broker or preset change.
The Range Breakout EA MT5 listing describes a session-breakout system, making time mapping a relevant setup check. Compare its instructions with other products in the MT5 EA collection.
There is no universally best session for every Gold robot. Correct timing makes a strategy’s behavior reproducible; it does not establish that the strategy has an edge or prevent financial loss.
