Gold EA Set Files on MT5: Preset Versioning and Change Control
Gold EA set files store input values, but a filename alone does not explain the assumptions behind them. A preset can be appropriate for one EA version and account configuration while producing unexpected behavior elsewhere. Treat every preset as a documented configuration, not a performance promise.
Label the context before loading a preset
Keep the EA name and version, broker server, Gold symbol, timeframe, account currency and test date beside each file. Include a note identifying the original source and whether you changed anything. An example naming pattern is EAname-vX-XAUUSD-H1-demo-2026-09-28.set; adapt it to the actual product rather than treating H1 as a universal requirement.
Preserve the original downloaded preset separately. A clear baseline makes later troubleshooting much easier than a folder containing several files all called “best settings.” Do not put passwords or license keys into shared configuration notes.
Review the inputs after loading
MT5 lets users save and load input sets through the EA properties window. Loading values should be followed by a visible input review, especially after an EA update. MetaQuotes describes the controls in its Expert Advisor input-parameter guide.
Check lot-sizing mode, maximum exposure, stops, session timing, spread limits, news behavior and strategy identifiers where the EA exposes them. Compare the labels and units with the supplied documentation. A setting described as “risk” could represent a percentage, a preset mode or another developer-defined quantity.
Use a change log that answers one question at a time
Record the previous value, new value, reason for the change and observation period. For an operational test, changing only the session map makes it easier to see whether the timing issue is resolved. Changing sessions, sizing and entry filters together makes the result difficult to interpret.
When several changes are unavoidable, save them as a new configuration and explain the combined purpose. Do not overwrite the baseline or assume a single favorable trade validates the new set. Keep configuration correctness separate from evidence about the strategy’s trading performance.
Match presets to products and versions
The Range Breakout EA MT5 listing mentions market presets and selectable risk levels. Those labels require product-specific interpretation. A preset from that system is not a portable settings package for every robot in the MT5 EA collection.
After an update, compare the new input list with the previous version’s notes. Confirm how the EA handles open positions during reinitialization before changing a live configuration. A rollback plan should identify the old version and set file, plus the procedure for dealing with positions already under management.
Keep configuration and performance records separate
A clean change log proves what was running, not that it will earn money. Use the site’s XAUUSD EA testing guide when evaluating behavior across market data, and retain the exact configuration with each result. Gold trading involves loss risk, and a preset should never be presented as a guaranteed outcome.
