The video follows the entire workflow: select a starting template, customize the strategy, run a visual test, export the MQ5 source code, compile it in MetaEditor 5, and run an independent MT5 Strategy Tester backtest.

Quick Verdict

What We Built

An XAUUSD Expert Advisor using an Alligator-based entry signal with additional drawdown protection.

How It Was Built

We started with the Aurora template, changed selected modules, tested the design, and exported editable MQ5 source code.

Who It Is For

MT5 users who want to create and test trading-bot ideas without manually writing an Expert Advisor from the beginning.

Important: This is a software-building and testing demonstration, not a promise of trading profit. Backtest results are historical simulations and do not guarantee future performance.

What Is the Alligator Custom Bot?

The Alligator Custom Bot is an MT5 Expert Advisor created with BYO-Bot. It demonstrates how a trader can take an existing strategy structure and turn it into a different bot by changing selected components.

For this build, we used the Aurora template as the starting point. We replaced its default entry signal with an Alligator entry, retained a structured trade management system, and added drawdown control as an extra protection module.

The finished product is not merely a settings file. BYO-Bot exports MQ5 source code, which can be opened and compiled in MetaEditor 5 to produce an EX5 Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5.

How to Build an MT5 EA Without Coding

1. Choose a Template

Select a prepared strategy structure instead of starting with an empty project. We used the Aurora template for this example.

2. Customize the Bot

Change the entry signal to Alligator, select the required timeframe, and add drawdown control in the protection section.

3. Run the Visual Test

Use BYO-Bot’s local visual test to check that the selected strategy components operate together before exporting.

4. Export and Compile

Export the MQ5 source file, open it in MetaEditor 5, compile it, and then test the resulting Expert Advisor in MT5.

Step 1: Start with the Aurora Template

A template provides a complete starting structure. This is useful because an automated trading system normally needs more than one indicator. It also needs position sizing, entry conditions, trade management, exit rules, and risk controls.

Selecting Aurora loads these connected modules into the builder. We can then modify the parts that define our new trading idea without rebuilding every supporting component.

Template does not mean fixed: The purpose of the template is to provide a working structure. The selected modules and their editable settings can then be adjusted to create a different EA.

Step 2: Change the Entry Signal to Alligator

In the Entry Signal section, we replaced the template’s default signal with the Alligator option. The signal timeframe can then be selected for the intended strategy design.

The Alligator indicator uses multiple smoothed moving averages to describe market structure and direction. In this build, it acts as the primary entry component rather than a visual indicator added manually to a chart.

BYO-Bot also provides three confirmation-filter slots. Each slot can use a selectable signal and timeframe, allowing the primary entry condition to be combined with additional confirmation logic when required.

Step 3: Add Drawdown Control

After selecting the Alligator entry, we added Drawdown Control in the protection section. This provides an additional risk rule that can respond when the configured loss or drawdown condition is reached.

Protection modules do not remove trading risk. Their purpose is to give the generated EA explicit instructions for handling selected risk conditions instead of leaving those situations undefined.

Step 4: Test, Export and Compile the EA

Once the strategy is configured, the next stage is the local visual test. This provides an initial estimate and confirms that the selected modules can run together.

The Export Source step becomes available after the visual test is completed. Before exporting, enter the EA name and the requested identification details. BYO-Bot then creates the MQ5 source file.

How to compile the exported MQ5 file

  1. Use the Open Folder button after the source code is exported.
  2. Copy or open the MQ5 file in the appropriate MetaTrader 5 Experts folder.
  3. Open the source file with MetaEditor 5.
  4. Click Compile or press F7.
  5. Confirm that compilation completes successfully.
  6. Refresh the Expert Advisors list in MetaTrader 5.
  7. Run an independent test in the MT5 Strategy Tester.

Alligator Custom Bot Backtest Results

We ran the exported EA in the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester. The following figures were manually taken from the displayed MT5 reports.

Two Alligator Custom Bot tests are included: a longer test and a separate six-month test. The six-month result is also compared with Quantum Queen X 4.3 using matching XAUUSD history data and the same initial deposit.

Read the reports carefully: Balance drawdown and equity drawdown measure different things. Floating losses can make equity drawdown substantially higher than the closed-trade balance drawdown.

Alligator Custom Bot vs Quantum Queen X 4.3

To provide additional context, we compared the six-month Alligator Custom Bot report with a Quantum Queen X 4.3 report covering the same March-to-August period.

Both reports use XAUUSD, a 1,000.00 initial deposit, 100% history quality, 176,990 bars, and 707,945 ticks. However, this is not a perfectly controlled comparison: the Alligator Custom Bot was tested on H1, while Quantum Queen X was tested on M1.

Comparison limitation: The reports use different timeframes and different strategy logic. The figures show what happened under these specific test configurations; they do not establish that one EA will always outperform the other.

What the Comparison Shows

In the supplied six-month reports, the Alligator Custom Bot produced higher net profit, a higher profit factor, more trades, a higher reported winning percentage, and lower equity drawdown than the Quantum Queen X test.

The equity drawdown difference is particularly important. The Alligator report shows maximum equity drawdown of 17.36%, while the Quantum Queen X report shows 69.02%. This demonstrates why the headline net-profit figure should never be reviewed by itself.

However, the comparison does not prove that the Alligator design will perform better in future markets. It also does not replace forward testing, execution checks, spread and commission testing, or validation with other brokers and market periods.

Quantum Queen X is referenced only for independent comparative commentary. TopTradingEAs is not claiming affiliation with or endorsement by its developer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I build an MT5 EA without coding?

BYO-Bot provides a visual workflow for selecting and configuring strategy modules. It then generates MQ5 source code, so you do not need to write the complete EA manually from the beginning.

Is the Alligator Custom Bot included as a BYO-Bot template?

This bot was created by starting with the Aurora template and changing its entry and protection modules. The walkthrough shows the settings and process used to reproduce the design.

What is the difference between MQ5 and EX5?

MQ5 is the readable source-code file. MetaEditor compiles that source into an EX5 program that MetaTrader 5 can run as an Expert Advisor.

Can the free trial export source code?

The trial allows users to explore the builder and test strategies. Its source export is limited to the designated sample bot. A full licence is required to export custom strategy source code.

Do these backtest results guarantee profit?

No. Backtests are historical simulations. Live results can differ because of changing market conditions, spread, commission, slippage, latency, broker execution and other factors.

Why compare the Alligator bot with Quantum Queen X?

Quantum Queen X is a recognised commercial XAUUSD EA, so its report provides useful context. The comparison is observational and is not perfectly controlled because the bots were tested on different timeframes.

Should I test the exported EA again in MetaTrader 5?

Yes. The local visual test is an initial design check. The exported EA should also be compiled and tested independently in the MT5 Strategy Tester, followed by forward testing on a demo account.

Final Verdict

The Alligator Custom Bot demonstrates the main value of BYO-Bot: a trader can begin with a structured template, replace selected strategy components, add protection rules, and turn the finished configuration into MQ5 source code.

The reported tests are encouraging, particularly the profit factor, trade win percentage and six-month drawdown figures. Nevertheless, the correct use of these reports is to guide further research—not to assume that historical results will automatically continue.

If you want to build your own MT5 EA without coding the entire project manually, the free trial provides a practical way to explore the workflow before purchasing a licence.
